Elverson Property Makeover
Project Overview
Our client had recently purchased this home in Elverson, PA and was sold on the home and location because of the gorgeous views of the Chester County countryside that it provided. The existing home had lots of interior renovations to do in addition to the much needed total landscape and hardscape front and backyard re-do’s. The sloping grade presented opportunities to create unique outdoor areas. You’ll see the incredible transformation in the before and after photos.
Solution
PROJECT PLANNING
We started the design process by creating a 2D design to help our client envision their new space. After revisions and tweaking, we arrived at a design that was perfect for their needs and tastes.
FRONT YARD
The front yard had severe grading issues and the first priority was to come up with a remedy to correct the initially poor high grading against the foundation. We came up with a practical solution by re-grading the front lawn and creating a swale so this area would drain properly and not continue to do further damage to the home.
BACKYARD
The original backyard hardscaping was not well designed and left a lot to be desired. The hodge podge materials, and crumbling stone wall was not attractive. We created a set of Techo Bloc Rocka Steps from the driveway and deck to the lower level where a small patio was installed. We designed the patio using Techo Bloc Blu 60 slabs in slate grey with a slate finish and a Blu 60 Onyx sailor border in the smooth finish.
We added new tiered retaining walls using Techo Bloc Mini-Creta 6” and 3” retaining wall block with Portofino Caps. The design / layout of this section was challenging. The goal of the project was to move away from the curved layout and go to more of a clean lined contemporary design. We were dealing with some very tight spaces between the septic system and the deck that made it difficult to do this but we made it by a matter of inches.
LIGHTING DESIGN PROJECT PLANNING
A vital finishing touch to this landscape project was the addition of landscape lighting throughout the project. We added up lighting to the trees along the driveway to allow for a more inviting first impression the home. Path lighting and under cap lighting were added to the steps, retaining walls and patio area to lighten those areas as
Conclusion
There is no doubt that this property certainly had existing areas that were neither optimally functional nor aesthetically pleasing to the layout and orientation of the home. The incredible transformation can be seen in the photos.

What our customer had to say:
"We highly recommend Whitehouse Landscaping! We hired Ted and Sam for a very large hardscaping and landscaping project around our entire house. Their designs were creative and thoughtful, often spotting design elements we would not have considered. They responded to every question, need and concern, and they have an extremely high standard of work. There were a few instances where they even coordinated with other contractors we had working on the house to insure seamless work. We're so happy with the end result - you can see an example of the dramatic difference in the before and after pictures below!"
