Pottstown Patio, Steps and Walkway
Project Overview
The homeowner was looking to create a back yard that their family could enjoy. The home had a nice deck but there was nothing else to draw them out into your backyard. The family has young children and they felt the deck separated them from the children playing in the backyard. The current backyard just didn’t work well for a good family outdoor experience and they desired a backyard that would accommodate family life with children better.
Homeowner also had unusable space under the deck which would become muddy after a rainfall. In addition, there was no easy way to access the driveway from the backyard. Currently there was a grassy slope that connected the two but no pathway or stairs that would make it a safer and easier way to navigate. At night it was dark which also presented challenges
Solution:
Having a patio on the ground level would accommodate their needs to connect with the children playing as well as additional space to entertain friends and family. The patio would extend under the deck which would take care of the muddy conditions and give the homeowners additional space for an outdoor eating area. Several boulder walls were used around the perimeter of the patio which cut into the slope to re-level the patio area.
A stand-alone masonry fireplace was selected by our client which made for a beautiful focal point for the patio space. The custom built fireplace was built off site and was installed and would surely draw family and friends together.
To solve moving from the backyard to the driveway, we created and installed unique Rocka steps terraced with boulders which enhanced the property’s natural setting. LED lighting was installed by the owner with our help and guidance to make the steps usable and safe in the evening hours.
Final Comment:
A beautiful paver patio large enough for entertaining but still intimate enough for a quiet outdoor dinner and interaction with children playing in the yard. The steps and walkway added a beautiful connection from the driveway to the backyard and fireplace became that invited place for friends and family to relax and enjoy.
Good design is not just about beauty and aesthetics but also about functionality. The thoughtfully designed space enabled the family to spread out and truly enjoy their outdoor area.
This is truly a perfect space to spend spring, summer and fall evenings entertaining, or to roast some marshmallows for s’mores on family night. We were so happy we were able to transform this outdoor living area for our clients!
This is what our client had to say…..
We recently had a paver patio, outdoor fireplace, and pathway/side entrance designed and built by the team at Whitehouse landscaping. Our entire experience with them was great, from our initial design meetings and through completion of the project. Ted translated our design wishes into a plan to fit our property and worked with us to find creative ways to stay within our project budget. He went out of his way to help me complete portions of the project that I did myself to stay within budget, patiently answering my many questions and even stopping by on a weekend to give me a hand. During construction, there were several challenges that had to be overcome (bad weather, unexpected site conditions). The Whitehouse team promptly and consistently communicated each challenge to us so that we understood the issue, the schedule/cost impacts, and our options. The foreman for our project, Drew, and the entire installation team were courteous, friendly, and very concerned with the quality of the work. Their constant attention to detail and work ethic were appreciated and show through in the final product. We now have an incredible outdoor space to enjoy this summer and for many years to come.
